Legal Week reports that Clifford Chance continues to lead the way this year advising on European M&A.
The Magic Circle firm continues to hold off all competition in European M&A and remains at the top of the league table for the first nine months of the year. According to the latest research by Mergermarket, Clifford Chance advised on 153 deals in 2003 through to September, worth just over £96bn.
Linklaters come in second, with 137 deals worth £83.6bn. Allen & Overy is third so far this year, Freshfields fourth. Three big US firms have now entered the top 10 by deal volumes. Skadden Arps, Sullivan & Cromwell and Davis Polk are all now gearing up and are extremely committed to the European market. UK firms will need to keep a watchful eye on their US rivals as the global M&A market starts to recover.
