Man Arrested In £7m Bank Blackmail Ploy

BBC News reports that a man has been arrested in connection with 'an alleged plot' to hold an unnamed international banking group to ransom for around £7m.

Details are sketchy, but it appears that a demand for the blackmail payment was originally made in New York and that the FBI and the City of London Police worked closely together to identify who was behind the plot.

Police have refused to identify the bank subjected to the demands or, indeed, clarified exactly what the consequences were to be in the event that the funds were not paid over. A man was arrested in Bethnal Green on Friday and is no doubt 'helping' the police with their 'inquiries'.
