Reuters reports that the former Goldman Sachs secretary accused of stealing more than $6m from her boss and others failed to show up in court on Wednesday and checked herself into The Priory, the exclusive private psychiatric hospital.
Jyoti De-Laurey, 33, stands accused of defrauding her boss and two others and was due to appear before Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. Her lawyer, Beth O'Reilly, confirmed that De-Laurey was depressed and suicidal. She said: 'Her mental health has deteriorated........she is not of sound mind'.
The Judge, Christopher Elwen, reluctantly agreed to adjurn the case until mid January, but said: 'I find it difficult to appreciate why she is unable to appear and plead'.
