Fault Halts Trading At Barclays Capital

AFX News reports that trading at Barclays Capital stopped for a matter of hours on Friday after an electrical fault shut down the firm's computer systems.

The news agency quotes an unnamed spokesman who confirmed that trading was halted just before midday and did not restart 'until mid-afternoon.'

It remains unclear exactly how long the systems were down and what the problem actually was. The spokesman said: 'There seems to have been a problem with electrics but we are still looking into it'.

Barclays Capital is one of the biggest Eurobond traders in the City.
