According to The Mirror, Arsenal are closing to agreeing their first deal for January, with Basel's Mohamed Elneny allegedly close to a deal.
The Gunners are expected to make a move for a new midfielder in January, with Arsene Wenger dealt a number of blows this season.
Central midfield pairing Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla have both been ruled out with long-term injuries, whilst Mikel Arteta is winding down his career and Mathieu Flamini is out of contract at the end of the season.
Gunners fans therefore want Wenger to bring some new blood in to the midfield - and it seems that their wish will be granted.
The Mirror report that Arsenal are close to securing a deal for Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny as soon as the transfer window opens in just over a week's time.
Elneny, 23, has already racked up 39 caps for the Egyptian national team, whilst he has been a virtual mainstay of the Basel side ever since joining from El Mokawloon in 2013.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Elneny is known for his passing range as well as his tenacity in midfield, which could make him an ideal long-term replacement for Flamini.
The report states that Arsenal have agreed a deal with Basel for Elneny, and now personal terms and a medical are expected in the coming weeks, as Elneny looks to follow his former Basel and Egyptian international team-mate and from Switzerland to London, after the winger joined Chelsea back in 2014.
